‘Pitch Perfect: K-pop Idols’ spinoff series in the works
K-pop is taking over, and apparently in Pitch Perfect, too! A new spinoff series from the beloved movie franchise is in the works, Variety reported.
Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman's Brownstone Productions is set to produce Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols. This new series will follow "a struggling singer-songwriter whose life completely turns upside down when she finds herself auditioning to be a part of the first all-American K-pop group."
Korean actor and producer Joel Kim Booster is writing the series, while Jason Moore, who directed the original Pitch Perfect film, will direct and executive produce.
Banks and Handelman will also executive produce alongside Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer from Gold Circle Films. Both Brownstone and Gold Circle previously produced all three Pitch Perfect films, with Banks having directed Pitch Perfect 2.
Following the announcement, Booster celebrated the news on his Instagram story, where he wrote, “[T]hank you, mommy @elizabethbanks and daddy @maxhandelman for giving me the keys to the castle!!”
Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols is the latest TV expansion of the Pitch Perfect film franchise. Previously, Peacock aired Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, which starred Adam Devine, who reprised his role from the films.
Pitch Perfect revolves around The Bellas—an all-girls singing group that takes part in campus competitions. The films were released between 2012 and 2017. It starred Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, and Anna Camp, among others.
