US 'Vogue' names Chloe Malle as new editor after Anna Wintour
Vogue US has a new chief.
In an announcement on their website, the fashion magazine said that Chloe Malle is now the Head of Editorial Content for American Vogue, "effective immediately."
Malle, who is currently the editor of Vogue.com and co-host of The Run-Through, now leads the creative and editorial direction of the title and joins Vogue’s 10 existing Heads of Editorial Content around the world. Malle will report directly to Anna Wintour, who stepped down from her role as the editor-in-chief of Vogue in June.
"Fashion and media are both evolving at breakneck speed, and I am so thrilled—and awed—to be part of that," Malle said on her new role.
"I also feel incredibly fortunate to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor," she added.
Wintour gave high praise to Kristen Malle, lauding her for the incredible work she's done to grow the magazine's digital audience. From securing exclusive coverage of Angel Reese's WNBA draft to getting the inside scoop on Lauren Bezos's wedding, Malle's knack for nabbing a story is "exceptional."
"She’s a voracious, engaged journalist with an intuition for women’s changing interests now—and her eye for the definitive image is exceptional," she said.
She continued that Malle has "long been one of Vogue’s secret weapons when it comes to tracking fashion."
"I am so excited to continue working with her, as her mentor but also as her student, while she leads us and our audiences where we’ve never been before," she highlighted.
According to Vogue, Malle had been working for the company since 2011 as the social editor, leading all wedding and social coverage, and contributing across a wide range of topics, including fashion, politics, homes and gardens, beauty, and health.
She went on to write features, oversee special projects, and work as a sittings editor from 2016 to 2023.
Malle further climbed the ladder when she was appointed Vogue.com's editor in the fall of 2023. The magazine noted how the "direct traffic to the site has doubled" since she assumed the position.
"Malle has been a key player in Vogue’s expansion into new forms of storytelling, launching editor-led newsletters and introducing successful annual tentpoles such as Dogue and the Vogue Vintage Guide. She’s also further raised the profile of Vogue’s Weddings section, increasing content output by 30% and driving record engagement," the magazine stated.
Wintour stepped down as editor of US Vogue in June, a position she has held for nearly 40 years. While she will no longer run day-to-day editing of the fashion bible, magazine group owner Conde Nast clarified that she will continue to hold senior roles at the group and remain Vogue's global editorial director.
