Long weekend alert!

Malacañang has declared Friday, June 6 a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Proclamation No. 911 on May 21 following the 1444 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.

Eid'l Adha is one of two major Islamic holidays observed globally each year, with the other being Eid'l Fitr, observed at the end of Ramadan. The former honors Ibrahim's act of obedience in his willingness to sacrifice his son and also marks the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

During Eid'l Adha, Muslims worldwide commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's profound act of obedience by slaughtering sheep, goats, cows, or camels as a symbolic sacrifice.

In the Philippines, Eid'l Adha has been observed as a national holiday for nine years. Initially, it was only as a regular holiday within the then-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
