The Philippines will host the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in 2027, marking the country's first time hosting a continental basketball event in over a decade.

“We believe hosting the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup event in the Philippines, where basketball has a passionate following, will help FIBA’s efforts to promote women’s basketball in Asia. The event will also serve as a boost to the SBP’s (Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas) efforts to promote women’s basketball in the Philippines,” said FIBA Executive Director-Asia Mr. Hagop Khajirian.

Meanwhile, SBP President Mr. Alfredo S. Panlilio said the federation is proud to host the said event.

“The federation has always been an ardent partner of FIBA in prioritizing the growth of women’s basketball, and it’s about time for the Philippines to do even more,” Panlilio said.

“The timing is perfect for the Philippines to host this competition as women’s basketball in the country currently has great momentum behind it with the foundation of a women’s professional league and some of our national team players getting opportunities to play abroad,” he added.

Apart from the Philippines, FIBA Regional Office-Asia has also chosen Qatar to host the FIBA U18 Asia Cup in 2026. The following year will see Jordan holding the FIBA U16 Asia Cup and Indonesia welcoming the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup.

In 2028, Indonesia will again be the venue for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup, while Kazakhstan is set to host the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup.

Khajirian noted that the chosen hosts were “decided based upon not only organisational capacity, but also for the potential of creating a logical progression for basketball development in their countries.”

The Philippines last hosted a major international basketball tournament with the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 four years ago.
