A man from England died after undergoing a hair transplant procedure in Turkey.

Multiple media outlets, including The Guardian and The Independent, reported that Martyn Latchman, 38, of Milton Keynes, died in late July after falling ill during the procedure's preparatory phase, worth £1,500 (P114,000).

Latchman went to Dr. Cinik Clinic in the Besiktas district of Istanbul.

The clinic, in a statement, said he “unexpectedly became unwell for reasons that are still unknown” as he was being prepared for surgery, adding that he became ill “before the hair transplant procedure had begun."

It noted that Latchman was taken to the hospital but met his end later that day during his second procedure after a "successful" first operation.

The clinic refused to provide further details, citing the "ongoing legal process and out of respect for the family’s privacy."

Local television OdaTV said Turkish health authorities have launched an investigation, while his body has been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy.

A spokesperson for the United Kingdom Foreign Office told The Independent that they are "supporting the family of a British man who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Based on his LinkedIn profile, Latchman, who originated from Bridgend in south Wales, was an assistant headteacher at Goldington Academy in Bedford, where he also headed the computer science department.

He was also a network administrator and database manager.

According to the Dr. Cinik website, it has 20 years of experience and has done "over 50,000 successful transplants." Per the Guardian, its clients are mostly international footballers, including Croatian World Cup finalist Ivan Rakitić, the former France and Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé, and the Brazilian World Cup winner Rivaldo.

A report from the Turkish Healthcare Travel Council stated that over a million people travel to Turkey for hair restoration treatments annually.
