Anesthesia caused death of 10-year-old boy after circumcision—police
The autopsy results of the 10-year-old boy who died after undergoing circumcision in Tondo have been released.
According to a report by GMA's 24 Oras, police said a brain hemorrage that was possibly from anesthesia led to the boy's passing.
“Ibig sabihin ay may nakitang pagdurugo sa isang parte ng utak ng bata at posibleng may kaugnayan dito yung pagturok ng anesthesia,” Manila Police District Homicide Division chief PCapt. Dennis Turla said.
On May 17, Marjorie San Agustin brought her son Nathan to a lying-in clinic, which she learned about from a friend's social media post, for circumcision. She said she was informed by the clinic staff that her son received 20cc of anesthesia prior to the procedure.
San Agustin told GMA News that Nathan started feeling numb and shivering, but the doctor said this was normal. "Tapos na po, nagsisigaw na po, ganoon na po, nakikisigaw na po siya," she recalled.
Nathan was rushed to a hospital and was declared dead on arrival.
Maria Christina Tipon, councilor of Barangay 146, told GMA's Unang Balita that the person who circumcised Nathan was not a registered doctor and does not have a permit to operate. "Ang alam namin, licensed midwife siya," she said.
The suspect remains at large, according to ABS-CBN News.
Charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide have been filed against the fake doctor.
