You spoke, and Theatre Group Asia (TGA) heard you.

The overwhelming public demand for Into The Woods (with nearly 30,000 tickets sold in two hours) proved its magic. Now, TGA is extending the musical with six more shows from Aug. 28 to 31 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.

“This only illustrates how the Philippine theater scene is so alive! More and more, Filipinos are becoming more enthusiastic about theater once again, and this can only be a good thing for the industry and for our Philippine talents and creatives,” executive producer Chris Mohnani said.

“While we anticipated the surge due to the growing public excitement since our announcement, we couldn’t have imagined this level of public response, which can only be described as phenomenal. We closely monitored the feedback and response, and we are grateful for the public’s patience and perseverance. Together with our entire production team and cast, these additional shows are our way of sharing our humble appreciation to the warmth and support the public has given Into The Woods,” he continued.

Premiered in 1986, Into the Woods intertwines the plots of several fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella.

The local run will star Lea Salonga as the Witch, Eugene Domingo as Jack's mother, Nyoy Volante as the Baker, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante as the Baker's wife, Nic Chien as Jack, Joreen Bautista as Rapunzel, and Mark Bautista as Rapunzel's prince.

The musical is tied together by a story about a childless baker and his wife, their interaction with a witch who had cursed them, and their encounters with the fairy tale characters. It was adapted into a Disney movie in 2014.
