'The Devil Wears Prada 2' officially in production
The sequel to the hit film The Devil Wears Prada has officially begun filming.
The 20th Century Studios announced that the sequel is officially in production on Tuesday, July 1. In a reel, red pumps with a devil's wand as its heels can be seen as the movie's iconic lines play in the background, including Miranda Priestly's "By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me" and Andy Sachs' "Can you please spell Gabbana?"
The original movie stars Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly), Anne Hathaway (Andy Sachs), Emily Blunt (Emily), and Stanley Tucci (Nigel) are reprising their roles in the upcoming film. Joining them is Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh, who will portray the husband of the feisty fashion editor Miranda, according to reports from multiple outlets, including Variety.
The sequel is said to center on "devil" Miranda as she continues her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She will face off against Blunt's character, who is now a "high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs."
More details, including the other cast members and the plot, are still under wraps.
Released in 2006, The Devil Wears Prada is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger. It was known to have been inspired by her time working for Vogue and its editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, who recently stepped down from her post after nearly four decades.
The film follows a recent college journalism graduate Andy, who was hired as an assistant for Miranda, a job that "a million girls would kill for." While she initially struggles with her boss' impossible demands, she soon finds herself sucked into the world of high fashion and the "Runway" philosophy.
David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the original film, are returning for the sequel.
Streep, Blunt, and Hathaway recently had a mini-reunion at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February 2024, where they referenced some memorable lines from the film as they presented the nominees.
The Devil Wears Prada sequel is coming to theaters on May 1, 2026.
