Ruanni is a leading Filipino scholar of language education and multilingualism. He teaches at the Department of Culture, Communication and Media, Institute of Education, University College London. He is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language. He has been awarded lifetime and honorary membership by the Linguistic Society of the Philippines for his contributions to language scholarship in the country.
