Veteran director Francis 'Jun' Posadas passes away at 76
Veteran director Francis "Jun" Posadas, who is known for helming hit action and adult films, has now passed away at the age of 76.
The tragic news was announced by his daughter, Kelly Susan, in a Facebook post on August 12.
"Direk Francis Jun Posadas packed up. Mahal na mahal kita, tatay ko," she wrote in the caption.
As of writing, Kelly has yet to disclose the cause of her father's death. There are also no details about his burial site or memorial arrangements.
Many of Jun's colleagues paid tribute to the late director, remembering him as a passionate filmmaker and a generous mentor who helped shape their careers.
"Salamat sa mga payo mo sa'kin at paggabay sa'kin, at salamat sa lahat ng mga project na binigay mo sa'kin, lagi mo akong tinatawagan 'pag may project ka," talent manager Xavier Palomares Garcia wrote on Facebook.
Producer Dennis Evangelista meanwhile penned, "I’ve worked with Direk Francis Jun Posadas as his scriptwriter in Tampisaw, Masarap Na Pugad (na sinama pa niya ako mag-ocular sa Palawan), Balat-Sibuyas, at Sex Scandal. Mahusay na direktor at mabuting kaibigan. Rest in Peace Direk. Pakikiramay sa kanyang pamilyang naiwan!"
Jun began his career as a filmmaker back in the 1970s.
In an interview with content creator RHY TV on his YouTube channel, Jun shared that he first learned the art of filmmaking by watching shoots held at Manila Boys Town Complex.
"Sa Boys Town, doon ako nakatuto sa pelikula. Ang Boys Town lagi ay pinagshooshootingan ng pelikula. Lahat ng gustong gawin at pagshootingan, doon nagshooshooting," he said.
"Dumating nga ako roon, tuwang-tuwa ako na nagkaroon ng shooting. First time na nakakita ako ng shooting," he added.
After he initially started as merely an assistant who would make coffee and carry scripts during production, he eventually worked his way to lead the films himself.
Among his earliest works was the action-comedy film They Call Him Bruce Lee, which starred Philip Gamboa, Donna Villa, Manny Luna, and Rey Malonzo.
Since then, he has worked on many other action films such as Ako ang Batas – Gen. Tomas Karingal, Muslim Magnum .357: To Serve and Protect, and Pugoy – Hostage: Davao.
Posadas frequently worked with the late actor Eddie Garcia for his films.
Aside from the action genre, Jun has also worked on various adult films such as Nagputik ang Langit, Gawin sa Dilim, and Nang Maulit ang Minsan and Apoy.
