The mother of actor Brad Pitt has died.

Multiple media outlets, including TMZ and PEOPLE Magazine, on Aug. 6 reported that Jane Pitt died at 84 years old. TMZ said that at press time, she "passed in the last day or two."

According to PEOPLE, Jane, a retired school teacher, and William, a former trucking company owner, raised Brad and his siblings, Doug and Julie, in Springfield in Missouri.

Doug's daughter Sydney wrote a heartfelt Instagram post for Jane, whom she said had the "biggest heart" and "cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked."

"My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier," Sydney said in the caption.

She said Jane taught her "how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things."

"She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do," Sydney said.

She also recalled Jane giving them grandkids a "special day" to do whatever they wanted every year before school.

"She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat," she said. "There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it."

Brad was reportedly incredibly close with his mother.

In a June interview with Today, he gave a shoutout to Jane, telling host Savannah Guthrie that she watches the show every morning.

"I gotta say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning," he told Guthrie. "To Jane Pitt. Love you, Mom," he added, waving and blowing a kiss.

Brad's parents mostly stayed out of the limelight, though occasionally joined him on the red carpet, like at the Oscars in 2012 and at the premiere of Unbroken in 2014.

In 2009, Brad and his siblings donated $1 million to a Missouri hospital, opening a new wing in honor of their mother, the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center, per CBS News.
