Former actor Rodwick "Red" Sternberg, who is known for starring in the television series T.G.I.S., has passed away at the age of 50.

The tragic news was announced by his wife Sandy Sternberg on her Facebook page, detailing that Red died on May 27, just short of his 51st birthday on May 30.

"It is hard to find the words right now to say that this has been the most difficult time I have ever gone through my whole life. To be greeted 'happy birthday' and 'sorry for your loss' at the same time three consecutive days of what was supposed to be a celebration full of birthdays," Sandy wrote.

"My husband suddenly passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 27th. To those who knew him from his early acting days, he was 'Kiko,' but to our three kids and I he was simply Daddy or Dada. Today would have been his 51st birthday," she continued.

She asked others to pray for their family and requested privacy as they "navigate this difficult journey."

Red kickstarted his career in the 90s beginning with the 1995 film The Jessica Alfaro Story, which centers on the multiple homicide of members of the Vizconde family.

His most notable role came in the teen-oriented show T.G.I.S. or Thank God It’s Sabado, where he played Francisco Martin "Kiko" Arboleda De Dios. The series explores the challenges of teenage life, including friendships, romantic relationships, family issues, and the everyday struggles teens face.

Apart from Red, T.G.I.S. also stars Bobby Andrews, Angelu de Leon, Onemig Bondoc, Michael Flores, Raven Villanueva, Dingdong Dantes, Antoinette Taus, Sunshine Dizon, and Anne Curtis.

The show paved the way for Red to become a heartthrob at the time and went on to star in other projects such as Anna Karenina, Silaw, It's Cool Bulol, and My Pledge of Love.

Red eventually left the glitz and glam of the showbiz world behind to move to the US with his wife and their three children.

After learning of his death, T.G.I.S. director Mark Reyes took the time to pen a heartwarming message for Red.

"The entire T.G.I.S Barkada is heartbroken to lose one of our own," he wrote. "Kiko we love you and we’re giving you a group hug right now."

Red's memorial arrangements will be shared soon, according to Sandy.
