'Laban Kris': Kris Aquino to undergo physical therapy, return to cooking as part of her recovery
Kris Aquino shared she plans to undergo rehabilitation physical therapy and return to cooking as part of her recovery from battling multiple autoimmune diseases.
In her latest health update, the "Queen of All Media" said that over the next six months of isolation, she will participate in engaging activities aside from the treatment plan by her team of doctors.
"My doctors have the next 6 months while I’m in isolation, to figure out the best treatment plan for someone with as many allergies to medicine, food, and the environment," she wrote. She added that she plans to undergo rehabilitation physical therapy and cooking again with an assistant.
She noted, "I’m not allowed to be near the flame for more than a few minutes because it triggers my lupus, Polymyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, and progressive systemic sclerosis flares." She added she will also do another tutorial-based activity "because one is never too old to continue stimulating the brain."
Aquino also shared that she had undergone surgical procedures, which she specifically requested to be done before Aug. 21, which is a commemoration of the death of her dad, Ninoy Aquino.
"We started on August 20, 8:15 PM that was the time check I heard before “Daddy Doc” my anesthesiologist, and my cousin-in-law, Dr. Nick (he’s an interventional cardiologist) started their work… I remember being transferred to another cardiac OR for my port-a-cath. And I was back in my room before 12 midnight (sorry Cinderella)," she wrote.
She also reflected on the strength of her late mom, former president Cory Aquino, who also had a port-a-cath.
"While writing this happy tears are flowing- because I’m remembering how much our mom endured for us, she also had a port-a-cath surgically implanted, yet we never heard her complain, and she didn’t have a pain management doctor," Aquino wrote.
"I have an entire team of doctors, and my vascular surgeon, Dr Lucban did a great job (and Dr Kash his senior resident/fellow- while waking up from my anesthesia i said 'where’s the cutie pie doctor and can i now please have my DAIM' coincidentally my brother Noy & I had the same favorite chocolate)?" she added.
The former television personality also credited her strength to her sons, Josh and Bimby, who inspire her to fight amid her health ordeal, which has been going on for years.
"My sons are the reason I continue to endure- if I [weren’t] their mama, matagal na po akong sumuko," Kris stressed.
"It’s very difficult to be as brave as my dad & my mom because I know this is just the beginning of more aggressive treatment to keep me alive and get me to a point of remission," she continued.
"I have a new hashtag to remind myself how much I owe all of you who continue praying for me. Thank you for your patience, support, and much appreciated LOVE," she concluded her post, with the hashtag, #LabanKris.
Aquino has been diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases. Last July 20, she said she already had 11 of them after two new ones were found.
She's also dealing with fibromyalgia, which triggers pain and tenderness throughout the body; polymyositis, an inflammatory disease that leads to muscle weakness; and mixed connective tissue disease, which combines disorders such as lupus, scleroderma, and polymyositis.
She went to the United States in June 2022 to undergo treatment and returned to the Philippines in September 2024.
