Trigger warning: This article includes mentions of animal death.

Carla Abellana couldn't help but shed a tear as she recounted how she picked up a dog that was run over and killed on the road to bury it properly.

In a video on her Threads account, the actress narrated how she found a hit-and-run victim aspin along the Quezon City Circle.

"Unfortunately, the hit-and-run victim is deceased. I could tell because it was already by the gutter. There was a pool of blood by its mouth, and clearly it was stiff-looking and not moving," Abellana said.

"It seems like somebody hit the aspin and managed or was still kind enough to move the aspin's body to the gutter by the sidewalk," she said.

When she saw the body, Abellana made her driver circle back again so she could return to where she saw the dog.

"Because I have naman blankets and pillows in my car, I knew right away that I just had to get the aspin and give it a proper burial. So I took one of my blankets here and I asked for my driver's help to lift the body up and carry it into my van," she said.

She described the aspin as having brown brindle fur. The dog will be buried in an empty lot across the actress's house.

"Thankfully, there's an empty lot in front of my house. Although, of course, somebody owns it, but it's just an empty lot with overgrown plants, trees, and shrubs," she added. "I'm sure whoever the lot owner is wouldn't mind. I just really want to give the aspin a proper burial because kasi nakakaawa."

Abellana also revealed that the dog had a collar, signaling that it had an owner who was probably wondering where their pet had been.

"I highly doubt that they have an idea or that they're aware that he or she has passed away. I'm giving him or her a proper burial because it's the least I could do," Abellana said through her tears.

"I'm sad whenever I see strays that are skin and bones, suffering, sick, hungry, scared, abandoned, neglected—even victims of hit and run—every time I'm on the road," she said.

The actress also encouraged owners to help, rescue, feed, and adopt strays and to neuter their own pets.

She implored her followers to not just report but to "try your best to actually do something about it by going down, stopping, taking the time to put them aside, to feed them, give them food, and give them water."

"You can do something. Don't just take pictures and videos and post and ask for help. You be the one to help because you can," Abellana stressed.

The actress has long been vocal about her advocacy for animal welfare. She previously rescued an aspin after it was run over in the middle of the highway and welcomed it into her home.
