'We're okay': Gerald Anderson squashes break-up rumors with Julia Barretto
Gerald Anderson brushed off rumors that he and Julia Barretto have broken up.
"We're okay," he said in an interview with Toni Gonzaga's Toni Talks posted on June 1.
"So, it's not true?" asked Toni, to which Anderson responded by denying the rumors that Barretto deleted some recent posts with him on Instagram.
"[Ganyan sa showbiz] inuunahan ka nila, and then dun ang basehan kung nakafollow ba, naka-unfollow ba, andun 'yung pictures, wala 'yung pictures. Nakakalungkot na 'yun na 'yung basehan, no?" the actor added.
The break-up rumors came as eagle-eyed social media noticed that the couple did not post photos together on their social media.
Anderson went on to say their relationship is going "deeper" as years pass.
"Si Julia is very mapagmahal, very motherly. Manang-mana siya kay Tita Marjorie, sa mommy niya. 'Yung values na mayroon siya, 'yung love na binibigay niya, 'yung support na binibigay niya, it inspires me to just be better and give her yung 100%, always my best version," she said.
On past relationships
Anderson also talked about his past relationships in the interview, adding that Barretto knew of his exes. Asked if he ever cheated, the actor answered, "No."
"Aaminin ko, it's almost impossible especially sa work natin, sa environment natin, sa situations natin na 'di ka ma-fa-fall sa [temptation], especially at a young age na binabato sa'yo lahat," he said.
He also said that in most of his past relationships, he was the one who "failed."
"I could have been a better person, a better partner," Anderson said. "I can't take back 'yung nangyari... It was always me. Ako talaga. Maybe 'yung stage ng buhay ko noong time na 'yun, 'di ko alam paano i-handle, marami akong gusto, selfish reasons na mas importante sa'kin trabaho ko, image ko. And then 'yun pala 'yung pinakatinamaan kasi 'yun lang focus ko instead of 'yung tao na kasama ko."
Earlier in February 2024, Barretto gave her thoughts on users making up rumors that she and Anderson had ended their relationship.
"I think I’ll just take it as a compliment. I guess we're able to create that private bubble of ours na hindi na nila alam masyado kung ano ang nangyayari sa partnership namin,” she said during her guest appearance in an episode of Magandang Buhay.
"I think it's a conscious effort on our end na talagang protektahan, na hindi kailangang mag-over share, hindi dapat bawat galaw kailangan alam ng lahat, so siguro that's why they think [na break na kami],” she added.
The couple ignited dating rumors for a few months after their 2019 movie Between Maybes came out. The actor eventually confirmed their relationship in an interview with Boy Abunda in March 2021.
