Maris Racal says she nearly gave up on showbiz after past issue
Maris Racal opened up about a challenging period in her career, telling broadcaster Karen Davila that she nearly abandoned showbiz altogether.
On her YouTube vlog, Davila asked if she ever considered quitting showbiz, to which Racal replied yes.
She answered: "I really wanted to give up because I was asking myself, 'What is this for? Is it all worth it? Is this worth my peace?'"
While Racal opted not to specify the reason, she just told Davila, "I think you know." It can be recalled that she was previously involved in an explosive cheating issue with her Can't Buy Me Love co-star Anthony Jennings.
However, she said that she only entertained the thought for two hours.
"Wala ka naman ibang choice kung hindi labanan lahat ng pagsubok," she said.
" I love my dreams so much na kahit anong problema, kahit anong pagsubok, gagawin ko siya. I love my dreams, I love my job, I love everything about this, kaya parang gagawin ko lahat para matupad yung pangarap ko," she added.
She stated that her faith in herself was instrumental in her decision to keep going.
"What makes me strong? That I fully believe in myself. My positivity. I guess I would say it's resilience. With the help of my siblings. My mom, my dad, my family, my best friend," she highlighted.
"Maybe at the time, I was really driven by anxiety, even though things were okay. So, my choice is when I look back, I would also say, 'Relax, Maris. Relax. Breathe. Everything will be fine if you just breathe,'" she continued.
Racal revealed that she has a therapist and a psychiatrist to help her cope in times of stress and anxiety, but shared that she has not been visiting them lately as she is now doing fine.
"Nung mga time na kailangan ko siya, magkausap kami. [It] started with therapy, and then psychiatrist na, and then medication. It really helps. I really believe in it," she said.
The local star further expressed her gratitude to her supporters as well as to the production houses that give her projects.
Regrets on past relationships
Later in their discussion, Davila asked Racal about her past relationships, and she openly admitted to having regrets.
" They may be painful, but nilalagay ko na siya sa moral compass ko so that wherever I go, I know what to do," she said.
Currently, Racal is living the single life and wants to stay that way for now to help her focus on her growth.
" I feel like I need to give myself some space to grow and to really process everything. I don't know. That's what I'm saying now but I don't know about tomorrow," she said.
Racal was previously in a relationship with singer-songwriter Rico Blanco before they had a "very polite separation" in 2024. Months later, the actress was caught in a cheating scandal after Jennings' ex-girlfriend, Jam Villanueva, shared text exchanges between the two celebrities, which showed that the two had an intimate affair while the actor was still with Villanueva.
Racal and Jennings have since apologized for what they did in separate statements.
