Miss Grand International terminates reign of 2024 titleholder Rachel Gupta
The Miss Grand International organization has announced the termination of Rachel Gupta’s title as Miss Grand International 2024.
In an announcement on their Facebook page, the pageant decided to revoke the title from Gupta due to her "failure to fulfill her assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval from the organization, and her refusal to participate in the scheduled trip to Guatemala."
"As a result, the organization has resolved to revoke her title with immediate effect. Miss Rachel Gupta is no longer authorized to use the title or wear the crown associated with Miss Grand International 2024," the organization stated.
They are requesting the beauty queen from India to return the crown to their head office within 30 days from the date of the notice.
On her Instagram account, Gupta addressed the issue and stated that she herself had decided to step down as Miss Grand International 2024 due to alleged "mistreatment" during her reign.
"Being crowned was one of the most cherished dreams of my life, and I was filled with hope and pride to represent my country and make history. However, the months following my crowning have been marked by broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment I can no longer endure in silence," she claimed.
"This decision was not made lightly. In the coming days, I will be releasing a full video sharing the details behind this difficult journey. I ask for your compassion, your open hearts, and your continued support as I take this next step. Your love means more than you know," she continued.
The MGI has yet to respond to Gupta's accusations.
Gupta took over the reign of Luciana Fuster Guzmán of Peru when she clinched the Miss Grand International 2024 crown in October.
If a Miss Grand International winner is terminated, the first runner-up typically assumes the title. In this case, it would be the Philippines' Christine Juliane Opiaza.
As of writing, there has been no official announcement regarding any potential changes to the titleholder.
