Barbara Palvin opened up about her endometriosis diagnosis as she revealed that she underwent surgery for it.

In an Instagram post on Aug. 17, the 31-year-old model said she's been dealing with difficulties in her period "for some years now."

"Fatigue, severe pain, heavy and irregular flow, sleepless nights on the bathroom floor. I thought this was just how it works for me," she said. "But recently I’ve been advised to seek out an endometriosis specialist to see whether my symptoms are caused by that."

Palvin noted that she's been going to checkups with her gynecologist every year and thought the disease would've been known by now.

"[B]ut as it turns out, endometriosis can’t be diagnosed with general examinations," she said, adding that she underwent an operation three months later.

"Since then I finally experienced a period that was easier, and now I know the difference," she said.

Palvin urged those who suspect they have endometriosis to "find it out," saying that in her case, it helped her "a lot."

"Early diagnosis and treatment are very important to prevent long-term complications," she said, "and now I’m more mindful about my body to act fast if needed."

"That’s also why I took the past 3 months to rest and fully heal. I’m excited about this new chapter of my life and now ready to get back to work," she added.

According to Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is a condition in which tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It causes pain, especially during menstrual periods, and fertility problems. Symptoms include painful periods, pain with sex, pain with bowel movement, excessive bleeding, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and nausea. Its exact causes are unknown.

Palvin made her debut in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2016. She became a Victoria's Secret Angel in 2019.

Aside from modeling, Palvin is also an actress, appearing in Hercules (2014) and Tyger Tyger (2021).

She's married to actor Dylan Sprouse.
