Jeremy Renner rejected 'Hawkeye 2' offer, citing lower pay likely due to accident

Jeremy Renner said he turned down a potential sequel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries Hawkeye, claiming he was offered lower pay.

"They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money," Renner said in an interview with High Performance sports app, an excerpt of which was posted on TikTok on May 1. “And I’m like, 'Wow, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money and, so, eight months of my time, essentially. And do it for half the amount?' I'm like, 'I'm sorry.'"

"Why, did you think I'm only half to Jeremy because I got run over?" he added, referring to his snow plow accident in 2023.

"Maybe that's why you wanna pay me half of what I made on the first season."

Renner noted that it's "not really" Marvel or even Disney, its parent company, behind the offer but rather "just the penny pinchers."

"The accountants, I told them to go fly a kite. Just at the insult offer," he said. "And so we didn't see eye to eye on it."

Renner pointed out that he loves Hawkeye and still loves to portray the character, but he "had to defend" himself.

"I didn't ask for any more money, mind you, right," he said. "It's just pay me what I made the first season."

Renner said it's a "little disheartening" that it didn't happen, though "that's fine."

"I'm happy to let that go because my body's probably thanking me, you know, time and time again, that I'm not doing it right now," he added. "But we'll see."

Renner famously portrayed the master archer in the eponymous Disney+ series in 2021, as well as in other MCU entries like Thor, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Avengers: Endgame, as well as Black Widow.

Renner got Academy Award nominations for his performances in The Hurt Locker (2008) and The Town (2010).

In January 2023, Renner was helping a family member who got stuck on the snow-covered private road near his home when he got run over by his truck-sized snow-moving equipment weighing 6,500 kg (14,330 lbs). It led to heavy bleeding in the head and crushing of his upper torso.
