Jessie J reveals she's diagnosed with 'early' breast cancer: 'I am going to disappear for a bit'
Jessie J shared that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The singer used her Instagram on Wednesday, June 4, to reveal her early breast cancer diagnosis. She admitted the decision to share the news had been a difficult one, something she had been "going back and forth" on.
"I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me, and also I'm a sharer. I've always shared everything that I go through in my life. Before No Secrets came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer," she said in her candid video. No Secrets is a single track she released in April.
"I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word early," the Domino singer continued. "I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period."
Though she initially hesitated about going public about having the disease, she ultimately decided to "be open and share it."
"One, because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough," she said. "I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories. I am an open book."
"It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much. Similar and worse," she continued.
The singer, who is a mom to her two-year-old son Sky, added that she is "getting to keep [her] nipples."
"It’s a weird topic and a weird situation. And I know the press are going to say crazy stuff but you know what, to get diagnosed with this as I’m putting out a song called No Secrets right before a song called Living My Best Life, which was all pre-planned before I found out about this, I mean you can’t make it up," Jessie said.
She added that she's going to "disappear for a bit" to undergo surgery,
"It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music," she said. Capital's Summertime Ball is a festival scheduled to take place on June 15.
Jessie further opened up about her situation in her caption.
"No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’? All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times) [these] last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective," she wrote. "BUT… Your girl needs a hug. Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking," she added.
In 2024, Jessie revealed that she had been diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
She is best known for her songs Price Tag, Domino, Do It Like a Dude, Flashlight, and Bang Bang, among others.
