Ever dreamed of playing a princess? Shrek the Musical is holding auditions for the roles of young and teen Fiona for its run in October.

NWR Musicals announced on June 30, that they are looking for young actresses aged 10 to 12 years old for the role of young Fiona, and 14 to 16 years old for the role of teen Fiona.

The open call auditions will be on July 19 and 20, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Academy for Leisure and Tourism (ALT), 2F Horizon Centre, 100 Andrews Ave., Newport City, Pasay. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and will last until 12 p.m.

Auditionees will need to perform I Know It’s Today, and demonstrate a soprano vocal range from B3 to C#5. Don't forget to submit their latest CV, a 3R-sized headshot, a full-body shot, and the accomplished registration form.

The rehearsals for the musical will begin on August 18, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., which will be extended until 11 p.m. during Tech Week.

Shrek the Musical is based on the 1990 book Shrek! by William Steig and the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film of the same name.

It follows the story of an ogre named Shrek as he goes on a quest "to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona with the help of his loveable Donkey and win back the deed to his swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad."

Shrek the Musical premiered on Broadway in 2008. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, it features music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire.

The Philippine staging of Shrek the Musical, as well as casting calls for several key roles, was announced last March. Michael Williams will serve as director, with Cara Barredo as assistant director. Musical staging will be done by Dexter Santos, choreography by Stephen Viñas, and music direction by Rony Fortich.

It will run starting on Oct. 31 to December at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.

Tickets are available at Ticketworld, Newport World Resorts Box Office, and Helixpay. Prices range from P1,500 for a bronze seat to P4,500 for SVIP.
