LIST: Here are the nominees for the 73rd FAMAS Awards
The nominees for the 73rd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences have been announced, celebrating the best in Filipino cinema.
This year's race is highly competitive, with films Green Bones, Mamay, and Topakk all leading the count with ten nominations each.
Green Bones, an official entry to the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, was nominated for Best Actor (Dennis Trillo), Best Supporting Actor (Ruru Madrid), Best Director (Zig Dulay), Best Screenplay, among others. It tells the story of prison guard Xavier Gonzaga (Madrid), who fights against the release of Domingo Zamora (Trillo) and exposes the injustices faced by wrongfully imprisoned inmates.
Mamay, on the other hand, was recognized for Best Actress (Ara Mina), Best Supporting Actor (Jeric Raval), Best Picture, Best Sound, and more. The biopic follows the real-life journey of Nunungan Mayor Marcos Mamay (Jeric Raval), who overcomes poverty to achieve his dreams.
Meanwhile, Topakk is an action thriller about a former special forces operative with PTSD who tries to save a woman from a drug cartel. It received nods for Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Picture, and more.
Trailing behind with eight nominations are two other 2024 MMFF entries: the family-themed And The Breadwinner Is... and the mystery-crime film Uninvited.
The 73rd FAMAS Awards Night will take place on Aug. 22 at the Fiesta Pavilion in Manila Hotel.
