Tech roundup: Nintendo Switch 2, HONOR's 'AI phone,' Anker soundcore Liberty 5, and other June gadget releases

Published Jun 06, 2025 4:03 am

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to arrive in the Philippines this June.

Apart from the gaming console's launch, several other tech companies are teasing big things to come, like HONOR dropping hints about an "AI phone" and Samsung posting about the "next chapter of ultra."

To keep you in the loop, PhilSTAR L!fe has rounded up some of the gadget releases and announcements for June.

Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been released in other countries like the U.S. and Japan; Filipinos have to wait a bit longer. The second-gen console comes out in the Philippines on June 26, and pre-orders for the console have already begun.

ICYMI, the Switch 2 features a bigger 7.9-inch display with 1080p resolution at up to 120fps—this is an improvement to the current version's 720p screen. It will also come with 256GB of internal storage, two USB-C ports, a built-in mic, and 3D audio support.

Instead of the sliding Joy-Cons, the new controllers on the upcoming console attach magnetically. Players will press a button to detach the bigger Joy-Cons.

The new console will also come with a new GameChat feature, allowing players to go on voice and video calls, and GameShare, where you can temporarily share a game with another Switch to play locally.

Based on the Nintendo Official Store on Shopee, the Switch 2 will be priced at P31,990.

HONOR 'AI phone'

Since the beginning of June, HONOR Philippines has been teasing the arrival of a new "AI Phone." It shared several posts where photos of people and even paintings are "brought to life" as videos.

In another post, the brand revealed that it will launch the HONOR 400, a "NextGen AI Phone," on June 17. You can catch the launch via Facebook.

Anker soundcore Liberty 5

Looking for new audio gear? Anker's latest earbuds, the soundcore Liberty 5, are now available in the Philippines.

These in-ear buds feature the brand's Adaptive ANC 3.0 and Dolby Audio for uninterrupted and immersive listening. Each piece also has two mics, so when you turn Transparency mode on, you can hear your surroundings properly.

With IP55 dust and water splash resistance, you can use the soundcore Liberty 5 on workouts.

Currently, the buds are on sale for P5,745 on Shopee and P5,995 on Lazada.

Samsung Ultra foldable

HONOR isn't the only one with something up its sleeve as Samsung teased the "Next Chapter of Ultra" on June 3.

The Korean tech company wrote in a press release about how its users have been asking for an "Ultra experience' in a smaller and more portable form factor. Alongside the post was a foldable device akin to the brand's Galaxy Z Fold.

So, what will an Ultra experience entail? Samsung teased different use cases, such as asking AI to find you a restaurant and text your dining companion while on your evening commute, as well as having a "powerful" camera to capture memories.

There's no news yet, though, about when to expect the new device.
