Vin Diesel teases return of Paul Walker’s character in final 'Fast & Furious' movie
It looks like fans of the Fast & Furious franchise haven't seen the last of Brian O’Conner, the character played by the late Paul Walker.
During this year's FuelFest, franchise veteran Vin Diesel made a special appearance to give more details about the upcoming sequel of the 2023 film Fast X and what fans can expect.
According to him, the film now has a tentative release window of April 2027, but he shared that he has a few important conditions to make the 11th installment.
""First, is to bring the franchise back to L.A.! The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing. The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner," he said, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Brian was the former protagonist of the Fast & Furious franchise alongside Diesel's character Dominic Toretto.
Brian began as an officer in the Los Angeles Police Department who was tasked to investigate a series of truck hijackings. He then forms a bond with Dominic and his crew as he infiltrates the world of illegal street racing.
Walker's character had been a staple character in the franchise until Furious 7 when the actor was killed in a fatal car crash in 2013.
Since the actor never got to finish the film, his brothers Caleb and Cody stepped in to complete his remaining scene with help from CGI technology. The character of Brian has since remained absent in subsequent installments.
While Diesel did not detail how Brian will be able to return for Fast X: Part 2, this is not the first time where film studios have "resurrected" late actors to portray their characters again. Audiences saw something similar with Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Ian Holm's Ash in Alien: Romulus.
While plot details for the touted final film has yet to be revealed, fans can expect that it will continue where the first Fast X left off. The story follows Dominic and his family being hunted by a new and dangerous enemy with ties to their past.
