Cinemalaya 2025 announces festival date, venue
Attention, film lovers! The 21st Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival is set to return for another edition this October.
The festival announced on its social media pages that it's scheduled to run from Oct. 3 to 12.
Known as the country’s biggest indie film festival, Cinemalaya continues to spotlight diverse voices and bold narratives from Filipino filmmakers. Selected entries will be screened throughout the festival across Shangri-La Plaza cinemas.
This year's entries include Chad Vidanes' Abanse, Noni Abao's Bloom Where You Are Planted, Tim Rone Villanueva's Child No. 82, Sari Dalena's Cinemartyrs, Dustin Celestino's Habang Nilalamon ng Hydra Ang Kasaysayan, Keavy Eunice Vicente and Nigel Santos' Open Endings, Jenn Romano's Padamlágan, Raymund Barcelon and Cheska Marfori's Paglilitis, Renei Dimla's Republika ng Pipolipinas, and Kevin Z. Alambra and Arah Badayos' Warla.
The 37th Gawad Cultural Center of the Philippines Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, more popularly known as Gawad Alternatibo, will also take place at the same venue from Oct. 3 to 11.
Recognized as the longest-running independent film competition of its kind in Asia, Gawad Alternatibo has been honoring Filipino creativity since 1987.
The competition highlights the best works in four categories: Animation, Experimental, Documentary, and Short Feature. Winners will receive cash prizes and certificates, while special citations may also be awarded to notable regional films and works created for or by children.
With both Cinemalaya and Gawad Alternatibo happening under one roof, moviegoers and cinephiles alike are in for a vibrant celebration of local talent, creativity, and the ever-evolving pelikulang Pilipino.
