Rolex watch signed by Marcos Sr. to be auctioned this September
Avid collectors can now have the chance to own a valuable Rolex watch that was signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos, as it is set to be auctioned this September.
Leon Gallery announced that the rare timepiece will be up for auction as part of their Magnificent September Auction 2025, which will be held on September 13 at 2:00 p.m. at their gallery in Makati City.
According to their listing, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date came from the personal collection of a close confidant and member of the government who served under Marcos during the Philippine Martial Law era.
The watch is described as being made in 18k yellow gold and has the iconic fluted bezel. It also features a champagne dial with applied baton hour markers, the signature Day-Date features, and is equipped with the distinguished President bracelet.
Leon Gallery said that the inscription on its case back is what makes the watch "of great historical significance."
It added that the former president gave it to a "trusted and loyal confidant during the time when the 'Rolex 12' became a symbol of power and inner-circle membership within the Marcos administration as the authors of Martial Law," the gallery detailed.
"This group, made up of close associates and high-ranking officials, received similar timepieces as a sign of their loyalty and shared influence," they added.
The gallery stated that the watch serves as a "powerful and moving reminder of a complex and turbulent era" and symbolizes a "period that is both controversial and undeniably crucial in the nation's story."
The Rolex watch will be auctioned at a starting price of P900,000.
Other valuable items from the sale include a first edition copy of Jose Rizal's landmark novel Noli Me Tangere and artworks from the likes of Félix Resurrección Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, and more.
