A pet cat that had been missing for 13 years had a chance to have a heartwarming reunion with its owner shortly before passing away.

In a report by the Western Telegraph, veterinary nurse Jade Yhnell shared that her cat Minx went missing when it was about five years old. Since Yhnell and her husband were in the middle of relocating from Bristol to Tredegar, they had to leave without finding Minx.

More than a decade later, Minx was eventually brought to a veterinary clinic in Pembrokeshire, which was 140 miles away from where Yhnell lived. The news outlet detailed that it was now abnormally thin and weak and "riddled with fleas."

The veterinarian, Andrew Clements, then reached out to Yhnell after finding out about her information through Minx's microchip and told her that her cat had been found.

"I was overwhelmed. I was speechless," Yhnell said. "I couldn’t stop shaking. I said to my husband, 'They’ve found Minx.' He was quite shocked. It was really really wonderful. It was just amazing."

Yhnell quickly made the trip down to Fishguard to be reunited with her long-lost cat.

"She was in a really bad way, but she recognized me immediately. She was headbutting me and purring. I was a mess as you can imagine. She was exactly the same with my husband; she was so excited to see him," Yhnell said.

Yhnell took her pet cat home and enlisted the help of her colleagues at the vet where she worked to nurse it back to health.

However, the happy reunion did not last long as Minx had been diagnosed with cancer and died a short time after being reunited with Yhnell and her family. Nevertheless, Yhnell is keeping her chin up knowing that her cat spent its last days being cared for.

"She was purring right to the last breath. She was such a wonderful cat," she said.

"I have nothing but gratitude that we had her back. I feel she came back to us for a reason, so that we could look after he in her final days. She knew how loved she was. She got to meet our babies and they absolutely adored her," she continued.

Yhnell highlighted the importance of having pets microchipped and to update the chip company of your contact details should they change.

Microchipping is a permanent form of electronic identification for pets, using a small chip implanted under the skin.
