Brass plates on a historical monument honoring World War II veterans and guerrillas in Barangay Alabang were stolen, Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon said.

Suspects who took the markers were arrested on May 25, but it was found that they had already sold them.

"'Yun nga lang [mukhang] nabenta na din sa tunawan," Biazon wrote on Facebook.

The junk shop where the brass plates were sold will also face charges, he added.

According to Barangay Captain Tintin Abas-Ding, five individuals were caught at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Before the arrest, Biazon offered a P100,000 reward for anybody who had information to help find the plates.

"Sana mahuli ang mga lumapastangan sa ala-ala ng mga bayaning Muntinlupeño na nakipaglaban sa mga dayuhang mananakop during World War II," he said.

On the markers are the names of veteran guerrillas who fought for the country's freedom during the said war. The city commemorates its liberation from Japanese occupation every Feb. 4.

The suspects were brought to the Philippine National Police station at Alabang Junction for investigation.

Biazon, who ran unopposed, won his second term as Muntinlupa mayor in the 2025 elections. Meanwhile, independent candidate Phanie Teves was proclaimed the city's vice mayor.
