A black SUV crashed into the passenger entrance of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on May 4.

The New NAIA Infra Corp. has investigated the incident, which caused the death of two individuals—a male adult and a four-year-old girl. Four others were also injured.

Individuals who sustained injuries are being treated, as per the NNIC, while the driver of the vehicle is under Philippine National Police custody.

The Land Transportation Office has also ordered a 90-day suspension on the driver's license and issued a show cause order against the registered owner of the vehicle.

According to the LTO, the driver was leaving the departure area after sending off a passenger when a sedan suddenly passed in front of him.

"This sent him to a panic and instead of the brakes, he stepped on the gas pedal," the agency said.

Initial reports said that the SUV crashed through the outer railing and into the walkway near the terminal entrance.

"The area has been secured, and access is now limited to authorized personnel from [NNIC], the [PNP], and MIAA Security, who are currently conducting a full investigation," NAIA said in a statement on Sunday morning.

"We understand the concern this incident has caused, especially as images have circulated on social media. We urge the public not to speculate and to wait for verified updates, which will be issued as soon as they become available."

The Philippine Red Cross said that the accident happened at around 8:55 a.m. It responded with multiple ambulance units at 9:05 a.m.

Ramon Ang to shoulder medical costs

NNIC president Ramon S. Ang said on Sunday that he would personally shoulder the medical expenses of the four individuals injured and provide financial assistance to the families of the two who died in the incident.

"This is a very tragic incident. Our priority now is to make sure the victims and their families receive the support and care they need," he said(with reports from Jah Rosales)
