Woman unexpectedly gives birth after going to the hospital initially for stomach pain
A woman unexpectedly welcomed a baby boy after rushing herself to the hospital due to stomach pain.
Citing local media, South China Morning Post reported that the woman from Ezhou City in China, surnamed Li, experienced discomfort due to abdominal pain after having lunch. She initially thought she just overate, but when the pain persisted, she decided to bring herself to the hospital at 2 p.m. riding her electric bike.
Per the report, Li's stomachache worsened during her ultrasound examination. She later began having uterine contractions—and then her water broke.
The hospital immediately formed an obstetrics team for Li, and at 3:22 p.m., she gave birth to a baby boy through natural childbirth.
Li was transferred to a municipal health center for further observation. Her husband, who's working in another city, returned to Ezhou after learning about his wife's situation.
Upon giving birth, the mom said she was "perplexed" after learning about her pregnancy. According to the report, while she said she gained weight, Li did not experience anything unusual that may have been attributed to her pregnancy, including the delay in her period since her menstruation had always been irregular.
“I did not have any morning sickness, which I had during my first pregnancy,” Li explained, per the outlet. “Unaware of my pregnancy this time, I frequently rode my electric bike, but fortunately, the baby is healthy–this shows his strong vitality.”
Li is currently a mom to her six-year-old son. She added that she and her husband have been careful with contraception since they had not planned to have more children.
