DOTr to revoke license of taxi driver who charged P1,260 for NAIA T3 to T2

The license of a taxi driver who charged his passengers P1,260 for a trip from Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 has been revoked, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said.

A video of the incident went viral on social media. In the clip, the computed fare was shown on the taxi driver's phone instead of the meter. The disgruntled passengers could also be heard bargaining for a lower fare.

In a press conference on June 16, Dizon announced that the taxi driver's license has been suspended and will be revoked.

He added that the impounded cab's provisional authority had already expired.

The operator of the taxi, Taxihub Transport, could face raps, as the unit was operating with an expired franchise.

"Magpapadala ng show cause order ang [Land Transportation Regulatory and Franchising Board] at kakasuhan sila. At may penalty na 'yan. And posibleng matanggal ang prangkisa nitong Taxihub Transport. 'Yung buong fleet," Dizon said.

The franchise of all 15 taxis under the operator has expired since March 2025.

"May prangkisa kayo (taxis, PUVs, TNVS) para magbigay ng serbisyo pero may responsibilidad kayo, at 'pag kayo ay lumabag, may kaukulang kaparusahan 'yan," Dizon said.

He also announced that operations will be conducted to "clamp down" on taxis that "prey" on tourists by overcharging them at the airports and other ports of entry.

In the viral video, two female passengers could be heard talking to the driver about the P1,260 fare.

"'Wag naman, lugi tayo sa gasolina pabalik, ma'am," the driver told them as they asked to pay P1,000 instead.

"Kuya, grabe ang mahal ng ano mo... Kung alam ko lang... Para na kaming nagbiyahe ng probinsya. Budol naman kayo!" one rider can be heard saying.

The cabbie then said that he had told the passengers about the fare beforehand.

Dizon also encouraged the commuting public to take videos and report drivers who overcharge.

NAIA Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 is about 8.2 to 10.9 kilometers away without tolls, as per Google Maps. With tolls, it's about 8.3 kilometers away.
