Mother shares final text she received from daughter before dying from volcano fall
The mother of the 26-year-old woman who died after falling while hiking on an active volcano shared the last message she received from her daughter—and it was a heartbreaking one.
According to The New York Times, Juliana Marins of Brazil was found dead in Indonesia after falling while climbing Mount Rinjani in late June. Citing authorities, the media outlet reported that she fell 1,600 feet.
Marins' mom revealed the heartbreaking final text she got from her to Brazilian outlet Fantastico. “Mami, I love you so much. I was heartbroken when we said goodbye,” it read, as translated into English by The Sun. "In fact, that’s the only thing that worries me: letting you, papi or my sister be disappointed. Other than that, I’m not afraid of much, much less trouble.”
Marins also told her mom that she "was raised by a woman who can solve any problem and who is not afraid to take the plunge and go after her dreams.”
"I am like that too,” she continued. "I have different desires and dreams.”
"I love you all very much! And I will always be grateful for all the support, care and affection. That is what makes me not afraid,” she added.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, her body was found four days after the incident as the inclement weather and dangerous terrain in the scene made the search difficult.
Marins’ family called the rescue team “negligent,” per a report by Brazilian outlet TV Globo. Her relatives, noting that they’re seeking justice for Marins, argued that she would still be alive if they were able to reach her sooner.
