TV reporter gets robbed on camera a few moments before going on air
A TV reporter who was preparing to go on air became a target for attempted robbery, an incident that was caught on camera.
Clara Nery from the Brazilian outlet Band Rio was preparing to go live when a man riding a motorcycle zoomed near her and tried to snatch her phone.
"I had my back turned when this man rode by on a motorcycle on the sidewalk and tried to take my phone. In the video, you can see the moment he puts his hand on my phone and takes it from me. Luckily, I was holding on tightly,” Nery said, as reported by Band Rio.
The robber fled the scene, but Nery was able to retrieve her phone that had fallen on the ground. She pointed out that the motorcycle's plate number was covered with a piece of cardboard.
“It was a real scare to go live,” Nery later wrote in her Instagram post, “But the important thing is that everything turned out okay!”
She also thanked supporters who reached out to check on her. “Thanks for the messages and support from my coworkers, the Military Police, and the Civil Police.”
The suspect remains at large, but the authorities are in the process of locating him.
"We trust the work of the Military Police and the Civil Police. We have no doubt that he will be found and arrested. It remains to be seen whether, once arrested, his detention will be upheld, as we see many similar cases, but unfortunately, criminals like this are released after just a few days," Nery said, per the outlet.
