NDRRMC: 31 dead, over 6 million affected by storms, habagat

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has reported that the death toll from the combined impacts of Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, as well as the southwest monsoon or habagat, has risen to 31.

According to the NDRRMC's 6 a.m. situational report for the cumulative effects of these weather disturbances, the total casualties include 31 fatalities, 17 injured individuals, and seven persons still missing.

The data shows that the National Capital Region has the most significant number of reported casualties, with nine dead, one injured, and two missing individuals.

This was followed by Western Visayas (Region 6) with six, CALABARZON with five, and the Negros Island Region and Northern Mindanao (Region 10) with three each. There were two in Central Luzon (Region 3), while MIMAROPA, the Davao Region (Region 11), and the CARAGA region each had one. 

In terms of population, 6,276,280 people across 1,751,776 families were affected.

Moreover, a total of 15,039 damaged houses were reported. At the same time, the estimated cost of damage to infrastructure amounted to more than P6.5 billion in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, CAR, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, NIR, and Northern Mindanao. 

Meanwhile, an amount of P510,305,972 was reported as damage and losses to agriculture, and P281,660,000 for irrigation systems.

A total of 192 cities/municipalities were, on the other hand, declared under a state of calamity. 

According to PAGASA's 5 a.m. weather advisory, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan are forecasted to experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon. 

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms were due to habagat and were forecasted in Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon.
