Jinggoy Estrada's son breaks silence after he was assaulted in Boracay: 'It was an unprovoked attack'

Sen. Jinggoy Estrada's son Julian Ejercito said that he and his cousin, Jefferelly Vitug, did not get into a fight and were attacked unprovoked in Boracay in Malay, Aklan.

The Senate President Pro Tempore confirmed on Sunday that the two were beaten up by residents on May 24.

Malay Municipal Police Station reported that Julian and Jefferelly were walking from OM Bar when three individuals began to physically assault them without provocation.

Malay Police chief Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo said that the two and the assailants crossed paths at a bar and eyed each other. According to Estrada, the suspects allegedly found his nephew "too arrogant."

Julian reportedly suffered a blow to the head and had his toenail chipped off, while Jefferelly sustained a nose injury.

He took to social media to share his side of the altercation on May 25.

"Jelo (Jefferelly) and I were already walking away from a peaceful night, heading home, when one of them walked up, said a few words and threw the first punch," he said on Facebook, adding that some people online were making comments like "deserved" about the assault.

"This wasn't some bar fight. We weren't looking for trouble, and we sure as hell didn't start any, but it's easier, I guess, for strangers to believe the version that fits their bias."

The senator said he flew to Boracay immediately after the incident.

“No parent or relative ever wants to hear that their loved ones have been victims of such a senseless act in a place that should be a friendly community and a source of relaxation,” Estrada said in a statement.

Police later were able to identify and arrest three suspects, aged 18, who are now detained at the Malay Philippine National Police detention cell as of Sunday afternoon. A case has been filed against them. (With reports from Jennifer Rendon)
