You can now get your driver's license renewed online. Here's how

There's no need to wait in long lines at the Land Transportation Office, as you can now get your driver's license renewed online.

The LTO on July 10 launched the Online Driver's License Renewal System (ODLRS), which digitizes the process and lets you do it through the eGovPH app.

During the app's launch, Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said that the ODLRS aims to simplify the experience for drivers.

"Para hindi na talaga pumila ng napakatagal, palipat-lipat ka ng opisina, palipat lipat ng lugar. Hindi ‘yung pagpunta mo sa isang LTO District Office, may lalapit sa’yong fixer, sasabihin, ‘Oh bigyan mo nalang akong limang libo.’ Wala ng ganun dahil sa telepono mo lang magagawa lahat to, whether here or abroad,” he said.

So if your driver's license is expiring, here's how you can renew it all from your phone.

On the eGovPH app

First, you must open the eGovPH app, then tap NGAs on the homescreen. From the list, scroll to find Land Transportation Office.

From LTO services, select Online Driver's License Application. Pick Complete your profile to continue. A notice will pop up showing the prerequisite requirements for renewal of license.

Getting an Online Driving Enhancement Program (ODEP) certificate

Under the first line, which asks for an ODEP Certificate, tap Click here. Tap Open under Safe Roads PH. It will take you to a list of driving schools where you can enroll to get the certificate.

Once you've picked a driving school to enroll in, you'll be asked to take a photo, register your information, and pay. You can then start your learning journey and watch the course, which lasts for five hours. Finally, you can take an exam, and once you've completed the topics, you can receive a copy of your ODEP.

Getting a medical certificate

Back on the notice, under the second line asking for a valid medical certificate, press on Click here. Choose an accredited medical clinic, register, and book an appointment for a teleconsult. Make sure to attend the teleconference with your doctor to undergo the medical test. You will receive a copy of your medical certificate afterward.

Other steps

Once everything's done, press Continue, and you'll be taken to onboarding, where you'll upload photos of the front and back of your driver's license.

Check if your information in the form is correct and fill out the rest of the required data. Once complete, you can submit your application, pick Renewal, and pay for the fees online.

You will receive a text message from LTO once the application is done. The eGovPH app will also show the status of your application, and once your license is approved, the LTO will again send an SMS notifying you. Motorists can have their license picked up or delivered via courier. If you choose the latter, the new driver's license will be delivered within 72 hours, according to Dizon.

Digital ID

The new driver's license will also automatically show up as a digital ID in the eGovPH app.

"Pag hinahanap 'yung ID niyo, 'di niyo na kailangan ipakita 'yung physical," Dizon said. The e-license can be accessed whether you are online or offline.

The eGovPH app also houses other digital IDs like the National ID and ePhilHealth card.
