Former 'Superman' actor Dean Cain to join ICE, says US has a 'broken immigration system'
Ex-Superman star Dean Cain has signed up to join the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
Cain shared the news during his interview with FOX News, saying that he will be sworn in as an ICE agent as soon as possible.
“I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer — I wasn’t part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy,” Cain told FOX News' Jesse Watters on Aug. 6. “So now I’ve spoken with some officials over at ICE, and I will be sworn in as an ICE agent, ASAP.”
He added that he's ready to do whatever ICE director Todd Lyons “wants me to do."
"People have to step up. I'm stepping up. Hopefully, a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents will step up, and we'll meet those recruitment goals immediately, and we'll help protect this country," Cain added.
When asked what inspired him to join the organization, Cain said that America has always relied on "patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not,” saying that joining the agency was “the right thing” to do.
“We have a broken immigration system,” he continued. “Congress needs to fix it, but in the interim, President Trump ran on this. He is delivering on this. This is what people voted for. It’s what I voted for, and he’s going to see it through, and I’ll do my part and help make sure it happens.”
DHS said in a statement that Cain would be sworn in as an "honorary ICE Officer" next month, per a BBC report.
Before this, Cain shared his plans to join ICE in an Instagram video, saying it's important to join the organization to "help secure the safety of all Americans." He also encouraged his followers to do the same.
The Department of Homeland Security rolled out a recruitment campaign calling all qualified applicants, without an age limit, to join ICE and help its mission "arrest murderers, pedophiles, gang members, rapists, and other criminal illegal aliens from America’s streets." They are offering a maximum $50,000 (around P2.8 million) signing bonus, student loan repayment and forgiveness options, and other benefits.
Per DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, they have received more than 80,000 applicants for its 10,000 positions just a week after the campaign launch.
Cain got his first big break in entertainment when he starred in the 1993 TV series, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Beyond his iconic role, he has returned to the Superman world in other television series: Smallville and Supergirl.
Later, he became the host of Ripley's Believe It or Not! from 1994 to 2003, and 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty in 2013. He also starred in the films The Broken Hearts Club (2003), Lost (2004), Vendetta (2015), and more.
