Here's how you can audition for 'Bagets the Musical'

Calling all thespians! Bagets the Musical is opening auditions for lead roles and ensemble cast this July.

As director Maribel Legarda previously announced, they're looking for musical performers to step into the iconic roles of the five originally portrayed by Aga Muhlach, William Martinez, J.C. Bonnin, Herbert Bautista, and Raymond Lauchengco.

For the starring roles, the Philippine Educational Theater Association is looking for actors aged 16 to 22 years old.

Originally played by Martinez in the movie, Tonton, 18, is described as a daredevil, reckless, and a repeater. The barkada’s risk-taker who hides his pain behind his swag; learns the hard way that growing up means facing consequences.

Meanwhile, Bonnin's Topee, 15, is a quiet but keeping it together kind of guy. He's a martial arts kid who appears cool and collected but carries things he can't always name.

Muhlach's Adie, 15, is a charming and confused romantic with a camera who mixes up love, crushes, and connection. He slowly learns what real care looks like.

Gilbert, originated by Bautista, is a funny and insecure class clown from a hardworking family. While he tries to laugh off his problems, he just wants to be seen for more.

And last of the Bagets is Lauchengco's Arnel, a polished but unsure teen raised in comfort but quietly dreaming of a different path. He's torn between following his heart or his ermat's expectations.

The production is also looking for ensemble characters to play multiple roles in the show.

Casting call is open for the following characters:

  • Ivy (30s to 40s) - Adie's older crush who shows him what real maturity looks like
  • Janice (16 to 18) - a confident working class girl wh odances like she owns the floor and shows Arnel the world beyond his bubble.
  • Rose (16 to 18) - a no-nonsense and kind teen who's described as "Tonton's wake-up call.
  • Melissa (15 to 16) - Gilbert's simple and sharp seatmate, who doesn't know she's the reason he's trying to be brave.
  • Tita Nena (40s to 50s) - Topee's no-drama aunt/yaya who's cheerful and steady.
  • Barkada, teachers, Tita Nena, sauna girls, circumsision nurse/doctor, principal, etc - they will form the social world around the Bagets.
How to audition

Those interested in the roles may fill out the Bagets the Musical audition form via this link. Make sure to register until July 10, as PETA won't allow walk-ins.

They must sing 16 bars of one pop ballad and 16 bars of an upbeat pop song from the 80s. They should also be prepared to dance to 16 bars of music from the 80s. 

Aspirants must also bring their CV, head shot, and full body photo.

The first round of auditions will be on July 14, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and July 15, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the PETA Theater Center Studios.

Callbacks will be on July 21 and 22.

Rehearsals are scheduled from October 2025 to January 2026 at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City, while the show is set to be staged on Fridays to Sundays of January 23 to March 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.

Legarda previously said that they are looking for "triple threats."

"I'm really excited to cast young people. I think we would also want it to be like it was before, which was a platform to be able to find new young talents," the musical's director said.

Bagets the Musical is a joint project of PhilSTAR NEXT of the PhilSTAR Media Group, Viva Communications Inc., and Newport World Resorts, with PETA serving as line producer.
