Carlo Biado makes history with second World Pool Championship win
Carlo Biado has made history as the first Filipino to win the World Pool Championship twice.
The Pinoy dethroned defending champ Fedor Gorst 15-13 in the World 9-Ball Championship final at the Green Halls in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on July 27 (Philippine time).
The Russian American pool player had the early upper hand until Biado caught up to his opponent in the third rack and maintained a 9-2 lead. Gorst, the world No. 1, leveled the match at 9-9 and 13-13.
In the 27th rack, Biado earned the lead 14-13 and finished the 28th game flawlessly to win the World Pool Championship.
"I'm over the moon—I still can't believe I'm a two-time World Champion. It means everything to me. I'm so proud to bring this trophy home to the Philippines," he said as per Matchroom Pool.
"This final is something I'll remember forever. Fedor is one of the best in the world—when I was leading 9-2, I still couldn't relax because he's a monster on the table. But today, I stayed focused, stayed calm, and maybe had a little luck on my side, too."
Biado first won the World Pool Championship in 2017. Other Filipino pool legends who won the games include Efren "Bata" Reyes in 1999, Ronnie Alcano in 2006, and Francisco Bustamante in 2010.
On Instagram, Biado said that after winning the title, he's looking forward to spend time with his family.
He's also taking a break before the Florida Open from Aug. 5 to 10 and the US Open from Aug. 18 to 23.
Meanwhile, Gorst praised the Filipino and gave big congratulations to his "pare."
"Always a pleasure to play against you," he said as he posted a photo of him and Biado hugging.
Biado won a $250,000 (P14.2 million) cash prize as the winner of the 2025 World Pool Championship.
