'Bawal ang empleyadong matataray': Laguna hospital workers have to be more patient under new executive order

Newly minted Laguna Gov. Sol Aragones signed her first executive order that strictly prevents healthcare workers in the province, especially those in public hospitals, from being hostile or disrespectful.

"Pormal na nilagdaan ni Governor Sol Aragones ang isang Executive Order na mahigpit na nagbabawal sa sinumang empleyado, lalo na sa mga pampublikong ospital sa buong lalawigan, na magpakita ng masungit o walang galang na pag-uugali, lalo na sa mga pasyente," the Laguna Provincial Information Office said in a Facebook post on June 30.

Aragones said it's one of her major campaign promises, so she immediately issued the EO right after assuming office.

Amid its issuance, she noted that they're also understanding of the stresses that come with the hospital job. "Baka kaya sila nagiging iritable ay dahil sa matinding pagod mula sa mahabang oras ng trabaho at kakulangan sa staff," she said.

Aragones vowed to focus on Laguna's healthcare sector over the course of her term.

In her Facebook page, posters with the message, “BAWAL ANG EMPLEYADONG MATATARAY," can be seen being attached to a hospital.

According to the Laguna PIO, the posters were placed in nine district hospitals.

During the midterm elections last May 12, Aragones won against who are deemed to be tough opponents: then-Laguna representatives Ruth Hernandez (2nd District) and Dan Fernandez (Santa Rosa), as well as then-Laguna vice governor Karen Agapay.

According to the Provincial Board of Canvassers, Aragones got 635,570 votes, with Hernandez getting 548,286 and Fernandez getting 285,373. Agapay followed with 114,758 votes.

Aragones served as Laguna's 3rd District representative from 2013 to 2016. She ran for governor in 2022 but lost to Ramil Hernandez, the husband of the former 2nd District representative.

Before entering politics, Aragones worked as a reporter for ABS-CBN from 1998 to 2012. The programs she hosted include Salamat Dok and Alas Singko y Medya. She also anchored for TV Patrol, Bandila, and Umagang Kay Ganda.
