Missing Slovakian woman found dead at abandoned chapel in Boracay
A Slovakian tourist was found dead in Malay, Aklan just a few days after being reported missing by her Pinoy friend.
Accoridng to a report by The Philippine STAR, a resident in Barangay Balabag discovered the body of 23-year-old Michaela Mickova on Wednesday, March 12 at around 2 p.m.
He detailed to the police that he was on his way home from the beach when a foul smell led him to an abandoned chapel, where he found the victim’s decomposing body on the floor. He immediately reported it to the authorities.
According to police, the victim was wearing shoes but had no undergarments, and her legs were spread apart. She also wore a belt bag, but her wallet was not found at the scene.
The STAR added that investigators found a stab wound in the victim’s abdomen.
Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo, chief of the Malay police, confirmed that the victim was the missing Slovak tourist.
“We will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of the heinous crime against Michaela Mickova have been brought to justice,” the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) said in a statement.
“It is our foremost priority and goal to deliver justice to the family and loved ones of Michaela Mickova - a beloved daughter, a friend to many, and a young woman who has a passion for life,” it added.
In a separate statement, the Aklan Police Provincial Police Office said the Malay Municipal Police Station has launched an investigation into the incident.
“The authorities are working diligently to gather all relevant information and evidence to determine the cause of death and identity of any potential suspect,” it added.
Mickova was reported missing on Monday, March 10 by her Filipina friend. She arrived in Boracay on March 1 to attend her friend’s wedding, per the report.
Despite what happened, police said that Boracay “remains a safe and secured tourist destination.” They also assured the public that they are ensuring the safety and security of the island with increased police presence and patrols as well as collaborations with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders.
