Twins who were separated at 10 days old reunite 17 years later as best friends

Red string of fate? Twin sisters who were separated at 10 days old and were adopted by separate families became best friends 17 years later, unaware of their siblinghood.

The South China Morning Post reported that the parents of Zhang Guoxin and Hai Chao, 37, from China gave them away due to financial difficulty. One condition of their respective adoptions was that the two families must come from the same city in Hebei province.

Zhang and Hai didn't know about each other until they turned 17. Hai reportedly learned from a classmate that a clothing store assistant looks exactly like her, prompting her to pay a visit. Upon seeing Zhang, Hai said she immediately felt close to her.

Over time, the two learned about more similarities between them, including their birthday, near-fatal illness at 100 days old, voice, hairstyle, and taste in food.

Zhang and Hai became best friends in an instant.

Their respective adoptive families initially didn't inform them about the situation for fear of returning to their birth family. But 14 months later, they were informed of the truth.

They took the news in stride, even playing rock-paper-scissors to determine who was the elder sister. Zhang won, but either way, their family said she's the older twin.

In a happy coincidence, the twins also bought their respective apartments in nearby compounds despite not planning it.

Zhang and Hai have children of their own now, and they're attending the same school. Their kids also look alike that when only one of them attends parent-teacher meetings, the teacher couldn't tell them apart.

To date, the sisters haven't tracked down their birth family.
