WATCH: Kermit the Frog gives inspiring commencement speech at University of Maryland

Kermit the Frog delivered a warm send-off to the graduates of the University of Maryland's Class of 2025.

Wearing "a very tiny cap and gown," the green amphibian encouraged and inspired the members of the University of Maryland while noting that Muppets creator Jim Henson, who died in 1990, attended the institution.

"Now as I look out at you, students, I can tell that you have all worked your tails off. And, as a former tadpole, believe me, losing your tail is a pretty big deal, so, go Terps! Now, I realize that today is one of the most important days of your lives, so, I am honored to share some words of wisdom about three things that are close to my heart: Finding your people, taking the leap, and making connections," he said, highlighting a bronze statue of Kermit perched on a red granite bench with creator and Maryland alumnus Henson.

"Jim and his wife Jane were proud students right here at UMD when the food at the Stamp was good. Back then, they even had mosquito sprinkles for your ice cream. I miss that. And, as I'm sure you know, there's a statue of Jim and me on campus and, uh, it is not far from another campus legend, Testudo the Turtle," Kermit added.

'Finding your people'

The Muppet character went on to emphasize that Henson, who "loved collecting actors and artists and musicians," believed in people.

"But Jim believed that everyone had a place. Jim thought of that, and he made us believe it. And so, my whole life, I tried to appreciate people for exactly who they are," he said.

The anthropomorphic frog also noted that in this world, it is essential to surround yourself with people who get you, stay open to new connections, and never forget to laugh along the way.

"As you prepare to take this big leap into real life, here's a little advice, if you're willing to listen to a frog. Rather than jumping over someone to get what you want, consider reaching out your hand and taking the leap side by side. Because, life is better when we leap together."

Henson originated Kermit in 1955 on his local television series, Sam and Friends, where he described him as "kind of easy-going, very likable and sometimes slightly a wise guy."

He hosted the sketch comedy television series The Muppet Show and had a featured role on Sesame Street as one of the original main Muppet characters. In the show, he served as a lecturer on simple topics, giving wisdom to fellow characters such as Grover, Herry Monster, or Cookie Monster. Sometimes, he takes on the role of a news reporter interviewing storybook characters for Sesame Street News.
