LOOK: Krishnah Gravidez pays tribute to Maranao epic Darangen at the Miss World 2025 opening ceremony

Miss World Philippines 2025 Krishnah Marie Gravidez captivated the international stage as she paid homage to Mindanao's rich culture by performing a dance tribute inspired by the Maranao epic Darangen.

For the "Dances of the World" opening ceremony of Miss World 2025 in India on May 10, Gravidez wore a Simeon Cayetano creation deeply inspired by the UNESCO-recognized Maranao epic Darangen. Her costume specifically honored Princess Gandingan, a revered figure in Maranao folklore embodying grace, courage, and royalty.

Gravidez brought the character to life through a powerful performance of the traditional Singkil dance.

The ensemble stunned in vibrant hues of magenta and gold, adorned with hand-sewn sequins, intricate beadwork, and metallic embroidery.

Bold chevron patterns and a flowing inaul-inspired sash celebrated the depth and "richness of Maranao textile artistry." Adding flair to the performance were feathered fans in hot pink, "mirroring the dynamic rhythm of the bamboo poles in Singkil."

Topping the look was a bejeweled headpiece with a shape reminiscent of a torogan rooftop—the traditional ancestral home of Maranao royalty—symbolizing sovereignty and cultural pride.

"Every detail of Princess Gandingan honors the strength, grace, and cultural pride of the Filipino spirit—a moving tribute to tradition in motion," the Miss World Philippines Organization said in a post.

Gravidez succeeded Gwendolyne Fourniol as Miss World Philippines in July 2024. She is vying for the country's second Miss World crown after Megan Young's win in 2013.

Reigning queen Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic will see her successor in the 72nd edition of the pageant, which will be held in Telangana, India.

The festival will be held from May 7 to 31.
