Vlogger surrenders driver's license to LTO after viral unsafe driving video
The vlogger whose viral video showed her driving while slouching and raising her leg has surrendered her driver's license to the Land Transportation Office.
The LTO suspended the license of Cherry White, whose real name is Cherrylyn Gonzaga, for 90 days. It also placed her vehicle in the viral video under alarm.
The agency gave her until July 21 to submit the document on the car she was using at the time of the incident.
During the hearing of her reckless driving case in LTO's Quezon City headquarters, LTO Chief Greg Pua said Gonzaga admitted her mistake, apologized, and cooperated with the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division in the conduct of the probe.
“We in the LTO appreciate the humility on the part of Ms Cherry White," Pua said. "As a popular social media personality, we hope that we would find an ally in her in promoting road safety."
Gonzaga explained that her viral video was originally posted about three months ago and was reposted by another social media user.
As she received criticism, she also commented about how LTO personnel can whiten a sensitive part of their bodies. She, too, apologized for that comment during the hearing.
Gonzaga vowed to be more responsible with the things she posts moving forward, per LTO.
On July 19, the online personality posted a video telling her 6.5 million followers not to imitate her actions.
Pua previously noted that in Gonzaga's viral video, she's in a relaxed, lounging position with one leg on the driver's seat, seemingly not focused on safely operating the vehicle, which posed a risk to others on the road.
"The information we received was that this personality has a strong following on social media," he said, "and the video showing her unsafe driving practice is dangerous since it could be misinterpreted that it is okay to do that."
