LTO suspends sports car driver's license after viral video of using phone while driving
The Land Transportation Office has suspended the license of a sports car driver after he was shown using his cellphone while driving along a highway.
In a statement, the agency stated that it took action on the driver after he had posted a now-viral video of himself driving a Porsche on his social media account.
While his identity had not been specified, a screenshot of the video was credited by LTO to a certain Josh Mojica.
According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, the driver was "apparently creating content for social media using the expensive motor vehicle."
However, he stressed that it was "a clear violation of road safety rules."
"Anuman ang klase ng sasakyan na minamaneho ay dapat matuto pa rin tayong sumunod sa mga batas trapiko. If the driver is indeed a content creator, then there is this responsibility for him to set a good example to his followers," he said.
"We already suspended the driver’s license of the identified driver for 90 days pending the result of the investigation," he added.
On top of the suspension, the driver is also liable for at least three charges: reckless driving, violation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
The last violation has a maximum penalty of revocation of the driver’s license.
Both the registered owner and the driver have now been asked to appear before the LTO Central Office and submit an explanation as to why they should not be held administratively liable.
The Porsche was also placed under alarm.
