'Nothing short of extraordinary': Chelsea Manalo takes her final walk as Miss Universe Philippines, shares farewell message
Chelsea Manalo turned emotional as she took her final walk as Miss Universe Philippines and reflected on her reign.
For her final walk and farewell message, the 24-year-old beauty queen showed up on stage in a breathtaking off-shoulder gown in lavender. She completed her look with a pearl necklace and matching earrings as well as a gold crown.
In her farewell speech, Chelsea thanked her supporters who stayed with her every step of the way.
"As I stand here today, my heart is filled with gratitude, reflection, and a little bittersweet emotion. This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I am honored to have held the title of Miss Universe Philippines 2024 for the past year," she said, adding that winning the Miss Universe Philippines crown was more than just a title but a responsibility.
"From the moment I was crowned, I knew this was more than just a title. It was a responsibility, an opportunity to inspire, and a chance to grow throughout. I have had the privilege of meeting incredible people and, of course, being given a platform to support many and to represent not just myself but the community that I cherish here today. Every experience, from the glamorous moments on stage to the heartfelt connections [that developed] behind the scenes, [became] stepping stones in my growth as a woman and as a leader."
The Bulakenya beauty queen gave a special mention to the people who supported her throughout her reign, including her parents.
"Thank you so much for believing in me and giving me the chance to make a difference. Miss Universe Philippines has always been more than just a competition. It's a celebration of passion, dedication, and the beauty of dreams coming true," she said.
She also gave a message to her successor, saying that the journey towards Miss Universe is not easy, yet a "chance of a lifetime."
"To the new title holder, I want to say this: You have to cherish every moment. It is not going to be easy, believe me, but this chance of a lifetime will shape you in ways you never imagined. So wear the crown with pride and a heart full of purpose."
Representing Bulacan, Chelsea was crowned Miss Universe Philippines on May 22, 2024. She went on to represent the country at the international pageant in Mexico, where she finished in the Top 30.
She made history as the first Miss Universe Asia—one of the pageant's continental crowns. Joining her were Nigeria's Chidimma Adetshina, Finland's Matilda Wirtavuori, and Peru's Tati Calmell, who were named continental queens for Africa & Oceania, Europe, and the Americas, respectively.
