Lead cast members for 'Shrek: The Musical' revealed
The actors who will be playing the iconic roles of Shrek, Princess Fiona, and more in the Philippine production of Shrek the Musical have been revealed.
Shrek will be brought to life by Jamie Wilson, who is currently part of the cast of Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre.
His other works include Voltes V: Legacy, The Gatekeeper, Ang Huling El Bimbo, and K-Love.
Shrek's soulmate Princess Fiona will meanwhile be portrayed by Krystal Kane, a seasoned professional in the world of theater with credits such as The Sound of Music, Aspects of Love, In the Heights, and Legally Blonde.
Of course, no adventure would be complete without Shrek's trusty sidekick Donkey, who will be played by Topper Fabregas. The actor previously starred in Ang Huling El Bimbo, Sosyal Climbers and Artikulo 247.
Lastly, the role of Lord Farquaad, the main antagonist of the first Shrek movie that the play is based on, went to theater actor Alfredo "Bibo" Reyes.
He previously played roles in Broadway musicals such as Waitress, In the Heights, The Band's Visit, and The Bridges of Madison County. He was also featured in the Filipino musical Ang Huling El Bimbo.
Shrek the Musical will be produced by Newport World Resorts’ production outfit, Full House Theater Company. Dexter Santos will helm the project with Cara Barredo serving as assistant director.
Stephen Viñas is on board as choreographer, while Ejay Yatco will serve as the musical director.
The musical is based on the 1990 book Shrek! by William Steig and the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film of the same name.
It follows the story of an ogre named Shrek as he goes on a quest "to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona with the help of his loveable Donkey and win back the deed to his swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad."
Shrek the Musical premiered on Broadway in 2008. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, it features music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire.
It will run starting on Oct. 31 to December at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
Tickets are available at Ticketworld, Newport World Resorts Box Office, and Helixpay. Prices range from P1,500 for a bronze seat to P4,500 for SVIP.
