LOOK: ‘Pride and Prejudice’ series officially in production
The Pride and Prejudice series has officially begun filming!
Netflix UK shared a first-look photo of the Bennet Sisters as they officially began filming the upcoming series in the United Kingdom.
"We know you’ve been yearning for a sneak peek," the streamer wrote in its Instagram post. "Pride & Prejudice is officially in production!"
The Bennet sisters will be played by Emma Corrin as Elizabeth, Freya Mavor as Jane, Rhea Norwood as Lydia, Hopey Parish as Mary, and Hollie Avery as Kitty.
Joining the cast are Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourg, and Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham.
The series is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel of the same name.
“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy—it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life," the series' screenwriter Dolly Alderton told Netflix.
"The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm. In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship, and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice," she added.
More details about the six-part limited series, including the release date, have yet to be announced. It is set to be directed by Euros Lyn, who also helmed Doctor Who, Black Mirror's Fifteen Million Merits, and Heartstopper.
Pride and Prejudice has been adapted into films and series several times over the years. One popular translation was Joe Wright's film starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy.
The Jane Austen novel follows Elizabeth, the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich landowner, who overcome their biases and fall in love.
