Football star Diogo Jota dies at 28
Liverpool star Diogo Jota has died aged 28—just a few days after his wedding.
BBC reported that Jota died in a car accident with his brother, 25-year-old Andrea Silva in Spain.
Per the Guardia Civil, the two died on Thursday, July 3 when their vehicle caught fire after a tyre blowout while overtaking another car.
It came 11 days after Jota tied the knot with his partner Rute Cardoso in late June. They share three children.
According to BBC, Jota joined the professional football scene in 2016 with Pacos de Ferreira. He became part of Atletico Madrid later that year and then transferred to Wolves in 2017.
He made his international debut two years later.
Jota was signed by Liverpool from Wolves in 2020. In 182 games for the Reds, he had a total of 65 goals. He contributed to their win in the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022 as well as the last season of Premier League.
His last match took place on June 8.
